This paper presents the outcome of an educational approach centered on the application of Project-Based Learning (PBL) methodologies, which led to the creation of a new tangible and interactive musical playback interface coined Jazz-Ola. Through practical and creative learning, various disciplines converge to explore new ways of linking technology, art, and design within an educational and community-oriented context. The interface integrates digital technologies (such as Raspberry Pi and RFID sensors) with digital fabrication techniques and is designed for the dissemination of musical works by local artists in idle public spaces, such as waiting areas in bus stations. The project materializes as a wall-mounted vertical player, activated by the proximity of physical discs that are twice the size of conventional vinyl records, without requiring direct contact with playback or control mechanisms. This design revives the tactile and visual dimensions of physical media while leveraging the advantages of digital processing to offer a closer and more meaningful auditory experience.
The paper examines the conceptual, artistic, technological, and social aspects of the project, highlighting its ability to transform idle public spaces into platforms for cultural interaction. Additionally, it explores its educational implications, particularly its potential to foster the integration of disciplines and the development of technical and creative skills among participants, demonstrating the impact of this model on the interaction between community, education, and technology.
