Our report describes the experience of the Community University Orchard course, a proposal carried out at Instituto Tecnológico Regional Centro-Sur of Universidad Tecnológica del Uruguay. In an institution where virtual courses predominate, in 2024 we proposed an in person and practical course, open to students of all careers and public in general. For most of the participants, this was their first direct experience with an orchard, their first contact with nature and food production, as well as their first approach to Agroecology. Throughout the course, theoretical knowledge was combined with practices in the various activities that take place in a garden, from the preparation of the beds to the harvest. The course became a space for meeting and coexistence for the students, where in addition to learning about its management, they experienced learning about organization, the creation of bonds and the construction of autonomy. Our experience in the course has shown that Agroecology transcends food production; becomes a transformative tool for learning and social cohesion.
